DIY Fix for the HP DV6058cl series Laptop's

Step By Step downloadable Guide on how to Tear-Down your Laptop and a possible fix to get it running again.

tried it... it really works. thanks =)))

Thanks so much for this video. My computer was useless because of this GPU problem and the sending it over the states to repair was pretty expensive (as i live in venezuela and it's a pain to buy dollars here, and you have to get them in the "alternative" market). I just bought a heat gun, some artic silver, got my hands in some old copper coins (Not a dime but it does the trick). and thanks to this GREAT video, my laptop is runing fine again. Can't thank you enough.

Thnx a LoT man i fixed my laptop......u saved my 1000 INR (20 US$)....1st time i paid 500 INR for fixing this......this time i paid only 45 INR (1$) 1. copper plate 15 INR 2. Heat Paste (HQ) 30 INR Thnx a lot again....

THX!! You save my life! My HP tx2120 works fine now!!

Thanks man. Smart and cheap way of re-flow. This method help me to fix two of my laptops a dv6449 and a dv2000. The DV2000 had the black screen and the dv6449 did not recognized the WIFI card. Both fixed this way. I also opened the fan and clean it up. Now the laptop feels cool the hold time and the annoying buzzing sound from the fan is gone. Hp did not do a good design of the fan. The fan get full of dirt to soon, so the airflow cuts down and overheats the laptop. Thanks again man

Worked for me Compaq F700. Many thanks! My work and timing went just like the video, still can't believe it worked! Thanks for sharing the knowledge!

This worked for me (dv2000). Got my stuff ready, started the video and just followed along. Took about 2 hours and cost was ~ $30 (heat gun and artic silver). Thanks for the post.

Thanks for all the info on this dv6000 modification. The tear down instructions really helped. One thing to note on the DV6258se that I modded is it had a copper shim on the GPU. After adding Arctic Silver 5 and reinstalling the heat sink On boot up, pre-mod, I was getting a GPU temp of 80 C. Post mod, I am now getting 40 C. Thanks so much

You saved my $1500 laptop! thank you. It took me a while since I have never opened up a laptop.
temperature dropped from 75C to 48C
big difference, for a dv9700
There is only one problem now... It won't charge the battery, but I'm pretty sure it has to do w/ it being discharged for about 6 months.....thats when it broke down... So I guess im buying a new battery. I actually bought another one to replace I have 2 :D Thanks again.

You Need these Guides

Are you thinking that you must get a new Laptop or Sell your old Laptop for parts???

Time for Tear-Down: 20 min. (including taking pictures)

*** This may take you longer if you have never done anything like this before****

What is needed: Clean Space to work you should have an anti-static mat and wrist strap as well (not absolutely nessasary but good to have).

Make sure you discharge any static build up before working on any electronic components and if you get up to get coffee or any other reason discharge again before touching anything

****** Warning this will void the warranty of your HP Pavilion DV6000 series notebook (if you still have one) and can render your HP DV6000 useless if you do something wrong. If you are not comfortable taking this or any electronic product apart have a qualified Service Technician do if for you I take no responsibilities if you decide to to this your self. There is always a risk of electrocution as well capacitors can retain a charge and the power supply as well as the battery should be removed when any repair is made. (have to do this warning just a CYA thing) OH BTW DON'T DO THIS (ok that should cover me)********

Tools you should have

Every thing in the top Black tool kit was not used in this tear-down but is good to have when you are working on computers. The Screw Driver kit in red is a great cheap kit for 12$ at your local Tool King, Checker Auto Parts, or Wal-Mart. Next is the HP DV6058CL laptop.

All of the HP Pavilion DV series and I'm sure more all follow this guide with the exception of screw placements and the exact configuration of the system board. There will be some difference with the HP DV series models but this will give you a basic idea of how to crack them all open.

Flip the DV6058CL over with the battery closest to you all of the screws you can get to are circled in red The long vertical cover is the memory cover this also covers the wireless (wi-fi) card and the cmos battery The horizontal cover at the top left is the hard drive cover.
